A well-established, publicly funded organisation is currently recruiting a qualified and experienced Accountant to become a key member of its Finance team. This position plays an important role in promoting sound financial oversight, optimal resource allocation, and adherence to financial regulations and internal controls. Reporting to the Financial Controller, the successful applicant will collaborate with cross-functional teams, senior leadership, and external partners to support strategic planning and service delivery.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
- Produce timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Oversee budget management, forecasting, and financial performance tracking
- Perform variance analysis and deliver concise commentary and reports
- Ensure compliance with internal financial policies and relevant accounting standards
- Support financial reporting to senior leadership and oversight bodies
- Monitor capital expenditure and ensure alignment with funding sources
- Participate in organisation-wide initiatives and contribute to strategic planning
- Maintain and enhance financial systems and internal control frameworks
- Assist with the preparation and coordination of audits (internal and external)
- Provide financial insights to inform planning and operational decisions
- Help shape financial strategies and contribute to policy development
- Advise senior stakeholders on financial risks and opportunities
- Prepare reports and presentations for executive teams and board members
- Track and analyse key financial performance indicators (KPIs)
- Promote a high-performance culture with a focus on collaboration and accountability
- Engage with internal departments and external agencies to support financial processes
- Stay current with developments in financial legislation, policy, and best practice
Candidate Profile:
- Recognised professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or equivalent)
- At least 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience
- Strong skills in financial analysis and reporting
- Proficient user of Microsoft Excel and financial management systems
- Experience with Lean Six Sigma methodologies is a strong advantage
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage projects effectively
