Assistant Accountant, Public Sector, Cork

Our client a Public Sector body based in Cork are currently looking to recruit an Assistant Accountant to join their team on a contract basis.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Management Accounting

  • Supporting senior colleagues in ensuring that the organisation operates an effective financial planning and monthly financial performance management process so that the organisation can deliver the maximum amount of safe service while operating within the limits of the budget made available to it.
  • Preparation of relevant management accounting and financial accounting information including accruals/prepayments, cost transfers, monthly and ad-hoc reports, cost containment reports, forecasts, cash reports, annual financial statement information etc.
  • Promote and ensure full compliance with all Finance Policies, National Financial Regulations (NFRs) and best accounting practice at all times.
  • Access SAP Financials or other relevant financial systems to inform the area manager of actual –v- budget position
  • Liaise with the relevant financial controller
  • To supplement existing financial management capacity within the organisation specifically with respect to the deployment of IFMS, pay management and the introduction of Service Costing.

 

 

Administration

  • Ensure the efficient administration of area of responsibility
  • Appropriately delegate responsibility and authority
  • Ensure deadlines are met and that service levels are maintained
  • Support the implementation of service plan and business plan objectives within own area.
  • Ensure all general and financial records are readily available
  • Assist with processing of the National Ambulance Service Freedom of Information requests and reviews (FOI’s), complaints, subject access requests and Garda Vetting processes.
  • Preparation of reports and full adherence to reporting deadlines
  • Maintain a good understanding of internal and external factors that can affect service delivery including awareness of national and local issues that impact on own area
  • Maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Promote co-operation and working in harmony with other teams and disciplines
  • Ensure decisions are in line with local and national agreements
  • Provide administrative support for meetings and attend as required.
  • Promote good working practice and uniformity of standards

 

Service delivery and service improvement

  • Identify opportunities for improvement and implement.
  • Embrace change and adapt local work practices accordingly by finding practical ways to make policies work, ensuring team knows how to action changes
  • Ensure all general and financial records are readily available

Customer Service

  • Promote and maintain a customer focused environment by ensuring service users / customers are treated with dignity and respect.
  • Seek feedback from service users / customers and implement change to incorporate same, in agreement with Line Manager.

 

 

Suitable candidates will be part qualified accountants with one years plus general accounting experience.

SAP Experience is desirable
