An established, purpose-driven organisation is seeking a Senior Finance Officer to support the delivery of high-quality financial reporting and controls. This is a hands-on role with responsibility for month-end processes, financial analysis, and operational finance oversight. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring compliance, supporting audits, and driving continuous improvement across the finance function. Role Responsibilities:
- Lead the month-end close process, ensuring timely completion
- Prepare monthly management accounts, including variance analysis and commentary
- Produce departmental reports and liaise with budget holders on financial performance
- Manage cash flow forecasting and banking analysis
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations and resolve outstanding items
- Process month-end and year-end journals (accruals, prepayments, payroll, etc.)
- Compile and analyse project and financial performance reports
- Support the preparation of annual financial statements and audits
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, controls, and reporting requirements
- Oversee day-to-day finance operations including accounts payable, bank reconciliations, and ledger maintenance
- Supervise and support a Finance Officer
- Assist with financial reporting to stakeholders and funding bodies
- Conduct financial reviews and support project-related financial checks
- Contribute to risk management, procurement processes, and maintenance of financial records (fixed assets, contracts, etc.)
- Support supplier relationships and administrative areas such as insurance and pensions
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and enhance efficiency
- Undertake additional duties as required
Candidate Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar finance role
- Relevant accountancy qualification (part-qualified also considered)
- Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Advanced Excel and accounting systems experience
- Proactive, flexible, and team-oriented approach
- Experience in public sector, grant funding, or not-for-profit environments an advantage
- Previous supervisory experience preferable
